The Canadian Health care system has failed Canadian employers. Long waits and poor access to diagnostic services and treatment mean that injured workers are off work for long periods of time.
Primary care assessments:
An injured worker often waits 3 or more weeks just to see a family doctor and thousands of workers in Ontario have no doctor to go to. Walk in clinics and emergency rooms provide fragmented care with no communication about findings or follow-up care. Too often non-medical practitioners begin treatment with no medical diagnosis and with no indication that their treatment will add value to the worker's care. A rapid injured worker assessment by a trained primary care physician can often clarify the diagnosis and ensure that appropriate treatment begins immediately.
Specialty exams:
When complex problems arise, waits for specialists in Ontario are excessive, often 12 - 18 months. Worker's too often remain off work waiting for appointments only to learn in the end that a simple treatment could have led to a much earlier return to normal work activities. We can save time and money by accessing specialty assessments immediately.
Diagnostic tests:
Long waits for MRIs, CT scans and other tests add to the time that workers are off, waiting for solutions to their medical problems. We can overcome these hurdles and provide you with immediate access to tests. We review results and give you the follow-up you expect.
If you are not sure what is needed, our physicians can do a paper review to determine what is needed, recommending the assessments and testing that is cost effective for you.
Return to work plans and ergonomic assessments can further shorten the time a worker is off and save you even more money.
Extended Health Care Services:
Increasingly, Canadian employers are learning that a proactive approach to managing extended health benefit costs can save money and prevent needless or even harmful treatment for their workers. We offer a full range of services to minimize wasteful claims.
Each year, more and more Canadian employers realize that millions of dollars are wasted on unnecessary or inappropriate extended health care claims. Inappropriate use of these benefits not only wastes money but too often prevents patients from seeking more appropriate treatment. Sometimes it even causes harm. We seek to eliminate inappropriate use of extended health care benefits by reviewing treatment plans based on outcomes.
We have adopted a proactive approach to managing extended health benefit costs. We implement programs to review prescriptions for medications, medical devices, orthotics and appliances. We review treatment plans by health practitioners and determine when they offer true value to the patient. By doing this we are able to reduce waste and save money. Workers benefit because we prevent needless or even harmful treatment and help them focus or getting more appropriate care.
Lean processes such as this are not new to industry but unfortunately they are all too new in health care. We have introduced them to the extended benefits program and in doing so we are able to enhance the quality and reduce the cost of these programs.
Preferred Providers:
We can further reduce costs by recommending preferred providers. We have rosters of preferred providers for physiotherapy, chiropractic, massage, bracing, orthotics and TENs units, to name a few.
Our preferred providers:
- Demonstrate the highest level of quality
- Allow outcomes to be monitored
- Offer preferred pricing
